Day Zero
As the so-called DAY ZERO has been threatening Cape Town, we realize that our lives depend on this precious natural resource: WATER. Everyone has been affected, rich and poor. We cannot alter nature but we can adjust our lifestyles, we can plan, educate and motivate future generations to change the way we use and harness this precious resource.
Our mission is to raise R300 000.00 through sponsorship per kilometre ridden to secure the High School Education of one child. All funds will be raised in aid of the KIKA Trust, a registered charity, which sponsors deserving financially disadvantaged scholars full scholarships to quality schools in Cape Town. Amongst them may be a scientist, an inventor or an entrepreneur who makes an incredible contribution to preventing a future Day Zero. This scholarship will cover school fees, transport, uniforms, books, stationery, camps, extra mural kit and equipment for 5 years.
THE TEAM – DAY ZERO
Rob Burton,
Born and raised on a farm in Zambia, Rob was fortunate to have the farm as a motorbike and bicycle playground. He spent his early childhood at boarding school in the UK, where outdoor activities were mostly in freezing cold and wet conditions so the sport of cycling was not even considered. Unfortunately even in Zambia like many African countries one did not have the luxuries of modern equipment like mountain bikes, it was a single speed BMX at best. Only after arriving in Cape Town to start his own jewellery business, he noticed that his new circle of friends were all talking mountain biking, trail running, hiking, surfing etc. He decided that mountain biking was something he would have the best chance at and since then never looked back. His first purchase was a second hand aluminium framed Trek followed shortly after with a carbon Scott, peer pressure!!
Renzo Schincariol,
Born and bred Capetonian with Italian blood, say no more! Growing up and living in the foothills of Table Mountain Renzo has been an avid mountain biker, his only requirement after a long ride is an afternoon siesta! In his local cycling group, Renzo is known as the master of Downhills, he shows no fear with exceptional skills beating most Strava segments on the mountain.
Renzo has become well known and respected in his neighbourhood and Cape Town over the last few months during the drought in so far as he would be elected the Mayor of Vredehoek given the chance! He was fortunate to purchase a house that sits directly over the Table mountain aquifer, a natural underground spring that never stops. Instead of seeing this go to waste he has connected up a system whereby the neighbourhood can come fill up their containers outside his house at no charge, what a generous man! Renzo is the go to man, he will sacrifice hours of his time to assist any friend or family in any circumstance, he is a true mcGyver
