Special Projects

We have run a few extra workshops as part of our holistic approach to girls’ education. A few of our girls wanted to learn to swim, an incredibly important lifeskill to have, especially living in Cape Town where a visit to the beach is a real treat. The girls absolutely loved it and we hope to be able to continue with these lessons soon.

We had a wonderful workshop with Kehiloe Ktsekhe, a renowned Cape Town Psychologist with a passion for empowering young women.  The workshop  entitled :                             “Sisterhood, Self-care and Support”, was incredibly well received by all our KIKA girls. They learned a lot about themselves, each other and  various techniques on how to navigate and manage what can be a difficult time in any teens life.

We love to do KIKA outings! We hope to be able to do many more as we feel the sense of unity amongst the girls is really important. We would also like to be able to include the girls’ families at some outings too. Picnics have worked well, but I think the favourite was definitely a trip to the cinema to watch Black Panther in 3D!

PAST PROJECTS:

A wonderful project that KIKA was involved in from 2018 – 2023 is God’s Gift Orphanage and Vukanomtobhoyi Crèche in the township of Langa in Cape Town. Both are run by Mama Nomute, who has a huge heart and believes it is her calling to care for any child that needs help.

The Angel Network has taken over assisting the orphanage and creche in a more structured and sustainable manner. We hope to see Mama Nomute and her children in a proper brick structure with running water and facilities in the near future.

KIKA helped the 38 school going children in her orphanage and surrounds with new uniforms, books and stationery from 2018 – 2023

As part of her effort to look after children, Mama saw a need to look after young children during the day who are not yet of school going age and so she started Vukanomtobhoyi Crèche. We organised a drive for second hand toys and furniture and managed to bring in a wonderful amount for them. Since reopening after lockdown, the crèche had to remove all their rugs to be COVID compliant, leaving just the cold concrete floor. We worked with sponsors to install vinyl flooring which made the crèche that little bit more comfortable for the young children.
